one bowl brownies


I’m all about convenience these days, especially on busy week nights. At the beginning of each week, I usually make a special treat for my family to snack on after dinner or after school. Sometimes it’s cookies or homemade granola bars. Often it’s cupcakes or even jello. That’s right, jello. I told you I’m all about whatever is fast and easy. I always enjoy making a little something that says, “I love you guys, here are some cookies”. Food is my love language.

The other night I had a hankering for some brownies. My husband is a brownie freak so I knew it would be a popular decision around the ole’ homestead. I remembered a recipe that I had found years back from somewhere and stuffed in my recipe box. I loved the throw everything in one bowl, mix it up and bake it method. I realize the importance of separating wet and dry ingredients and whatnot when baking. This recipe doesn’t do that and it doesn’t even matter because they come out amazing. It must have been created by a busy mama. I pulled those bad boys out of the oven, cut them into squares, tasted them and it was true love. What dreams are made of baby!

This recipe could not be any easier. One thing I love about it is that there is no oil involved. Sometimes brownies out of a box can have a noticeable oily taste because one of the ingredients is half a cup of oil. In this recipe that oil gets replaced with butter. You heard me. BUTTAH! You’ll want to run, not walk, to your kitchen and make these right now for your family. They are that oooey, gooey and delicious and you’ll be the most popular girl around.

Here is how I made them:

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl throw in sugar, eggs, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt and vanilla.


Combine the ingredients. Next, add melted (then cooled) butter  and incorporate until the mixture is smooth. Pour the mixture in an 8 inch square pan lined with parchment paper. (I also used non-stick spray).


I sprinkled some chocolate chips over the top right before I put the brownies in the oven. Bake for 18-20 minutes and set aside to cool before cutting into squares.


They come out all fudgy and delicious and I promise you won’t regret making them…until you can’t fit into your jeans. Then you’ll need to eat some more to console yourself. Not that I know from personal experience or anything.


One Bowl Brownies

  • one cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup baking powder
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 melted butter (then cooled)
  • chocolate chips (optional)

Combine all ingredients and mix until smooth. Pour batter into an 8 inch square pan and bake in a 350 degree oven for 18-20 minutes. Cool. Cut into squares and treat yo’ self.
