Is it just me or is anyone else addicted to Fixer Upper? Can we all agree that Chip and Joanna should move to Kentucky so we can all be the best of friends? I want a farmhouse so bad I can hardly stand it. I dream of shiplap but unfortunately I have boring drywall. Or is it called sheet rock? I have no idea.
Have you ever been in a situation where you knew there was something between you and another person that just wasn’t quite right? Maybe there were words spoken that you regret. Maybe there was tension. In my case, it wasn’t so much those things but something that happened a few years ago that was left unresolved.
I was in the grocery store and I heard loud screams and hollers coming from some kid in the next aisle. I kept hearing the mom say, “Shhh! If you will please be quiet and behave I will give you a cookie when we get home.”
I said to myself, “When I have children, they will never be allowed to act like that. She needs to get her kid under control.” I thought that she obviously needed to teach her child a thing or two about manners.
Fear is paralyzing. It is something that I have dealt with all of my life and even though God has delivered me from so much fear, it’s still something I have to keep in check. My dad says all the time, “The enemy will not roll over and play dead when you are doing something of for God”. He’s right. We have the authority over fear through the blood of Jesus but the doesn’t mean the devil won’t keep trying to make you stumble.
Last year, one of my worst fears came true. I had always prided myself in the fact that I had never experienced this and so far my children hadn’t either. Whenever I heard of someone dealing with this the ick factor would set in and I just couldn’t fathom it happening to me. Well, it did happen to me and through it I learned a few lessons.
Being in ministry was something I always knew I’d do. As a little girl, my dad was in ministry, so I grew up working in ministry. God placed a desire in my heart to work in ministry and I just had an inner feeling that I would grow up and marry a pastor.
This recipe could not be simpler. One thing I love about it is that there is no oil involved. Sometimes brownies out of the box can have a noticeable oily taste because one of the ingredients is half a cup of oil. In this recipe that oil gets replaced with butter. You heard me.
